If you are not already participating in the Melrose Community Electricity Aggregation program and would like to enroll, please complete the secure online form below. Be sure to use the name and address associated with the account. Your account will be enrolled on the next available meter read. Alternatively, you may contact the program supplier, NextEra Energy Services directly at (855) 639-8058, Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM EST (excluding holidays). Please have your National Grid account information available when contacting. Please note, in Massachusetts, a minimum of two days prior to the meter reading date for your account is required in order for the electric utility to process an enrollment request. Monthly service cannot be prorated. Once service has begun, the program rate will be reflected on your following month’s electricity bill for the previous month’s service.
Melrose Premium 100% Local Green as a Federal Income Tax Deduction
If you enroll in Melrose Premium 100% Local Green, Green Energy Consumers Alliance will be supplying 100% of your Class 1 Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs). Green Energy Consumers explained to the Internal Revenue Service that the environmental benefits of renewable energy are enjoyed by everyone, which is why economists would call renewable energy a “public good”. With that logic, the voluntary purchaser of a REC from the Green Energy Consumers Alliance is able to deduct their REC purchase from their federal income taxes if they itemize charitable contributions on their return. As a result, you will receive a letter from Green Energy Consumers Alliance in January that details the amount spent on the 100% premium which you may deduct.
